Christmas

Who wants to read another Christmas post? “Not I” said Talia, but it’s important for me to talk about such things, and so here it is.

I will tell you that Luke and I are spoilt, that Christmas was beautiful, different, but still amazing. Christmas was family… though not all of it. I realised this Christmas that it’s not just my life that’s changing, it’s everyone’s. Only two out of four cousins (and then their partners) came to Christmas. The rest celebrated with their immediate family on Christmas Eve.

I have been clinging to my childhood memories of Christmas thinking that now that I’m married they have to change, but really, Christmas changing has nothing to do with me being married now, it would have changed anyway, and i would have been lonelier if I weren’t.

This year I wasn’t there in the morning to open presents… but I guess that’s okay? Things have to change sometime… I guess. This year we woke up at 6:30am (by our alarms), and drove. Not far, but that was different.

We went to church and they only sung TWO Christmas Carols. I wasn’t impressed.

When everyone is gone and grown up Christmas will be lonely. Luke and I thought that the first Christmas we have with a baby, we’re going to have it at our  place. Then everyone can see him (or her), and no one feels left out? Some people might of felt left out this year.

I still love Christmas, and I think now it’s becoming more meaningful. More about love and family and things life that. Less about traveling a long way to see relatives. But I hope that I always see my relatives at Christmas.

    change is sad.
But maybe a bit exciting too.

Christmas was different for my family too. It was much quieter than normal because not all of the family could travel to see us and some of the family traveled to see other family. It wasn’t bad just different.
