A mother (in law’s) words…
Luke and I went over to his parent’s house for lunch today. It was really nice. While Luke was playing the playstation, I was talking to his mum, Marlou…
M: “Has your office shut down over the break?”
T: “Yeah, I’ve got two weeks off. I’m mean to start back next Monday, but I’m going to go in a few days early to get some things done.”
M: *nods head*
T: “I’m glad I’m going back early, yesterday we were so bored!”
M: *smiles* “Did you get lots of housework done then?” *more slightly cheeky smiling*
T: *Confused, almost dreading look* “Umm… not much. Just a bit…”
M: “Did you scrapbook your wedding photos?”
T: *embarrassed look* “Umm… no, not yet. I still have to pick out the photos I want to do and print them off yet” (truth: we have no money to print them off right now)
*silence*
T: “But I have been doing our Bali photos! I’m nearly done on them!”
M: “Oh good, that’ll be nice. I was thinking of going down to Melbourne later in the year…”
The conversation continues and I am royally embarrassed. How can I be sitting around wondering what to do with myself and being bored, when a few weeks ago I was complaining (on this very blog) that I was a terrible wife because I wasn’t doing ‘wifey’ things like vacuuming, washing up, and dusting?!?
I am thankful for my (truly) beautiful mother-in-law who has kicked my arse into gear without her even knowing it! This evening I have washed up, cleaned up thoroughly and rearranged the kitchen so it’s more manageable, and after this post I am off to give the lounge room a thorougher cleaning out. Admittedly, it is a little difficult to find homes for everything we own, but a trip to IKEA soon will help that problem out. And besides, having things stacked neatly in a corner is better then flung on the table.
To our credit though, we have tidied up the office, and rearranged it. Now we can stare at each other when we get bored…

And we’ve also put in some plans to KEEP our room tidy, which I think is half our problem.
I am also thankful to my Mother-in-law because she has shown me that it is okay to use jars of things for dinner, and I am well on my way to being a simpler cook (at least until we have guests over, or kids so I can stay at home and have time to do these things). ![]()
