Re-Do
So it’s the end of another school year. We’ve had Amon’s presentation night, and I saw kids all grown up- graduating and what not. Kids I know when they were, well, kids!
It’s caused me to do a little bit of reflecting on the choices I’ve made in life after school, and, if given the chance, would I do it differently?
I’m only looking at this for a narrow perspective (in the terms on my career/passions mostly), and while I think most people say “No”to the question above, to be completely honest, my answer would be “Yes”. There are SO many things that I wish I studied at Uni. I wish I had about 5 lifetimes to do everything I want to do.
I definitely don’t regret my Bachelor of Learning Management. I made AMAZING friends during that course that I love so much. Uni would have been a drag without them. AND, even though I’m not a primary school teacher, the skills I’ve learnt at Uni will serve me well as a mother one day, particularly if we home school our kids (but that’s a story for another day, like in another 7 years or so when we have to think of such things!). I’m thankful that God has been in control, and even when I thought the world was ended (read: I couldn’t finish my internship and had to wait another year), it opened doors and opportunities for me to learn more about, and explore my love for online education and training- eLearning. Which in turn led to my dad starting the company that both Luke and I work for now.
However, that all being said, I wish I was a high school art teacher. I’ve recently been thinking about what Uni I would need to do to ‘upgrade’ my Primary degree to highschool art. It’s complex to say the least. And probably not worth it considering Luke and I plan on having kids in the next few years, and I plan on not working during that time.
Luke, being the amazing genius that he is, has come up with a solution. Self-taught Uni. We both have things we would love to study, but neither the money, nor the time to do it full time. So we’re investing some time each week (a lot less then full time Uni) into studying the things we’re interested in. We’re choosing subjects from a range of degrees, using the assessment items and the synopsis on the courses as our base, and creating our own subjects for each other! We’re making assessments, and providing resources so that we’re on track, have a goal to achieve, and stay motivated. The course my subjects are being based off is a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Interactive and Visual Design) from QUT. So if anyone’s done it before, or any subjects from it, and has some resources I’d appreciate links/notes etc!
So what do you think of my idea? If you could study anything in the world, what would it be?
Thanks for visiting my site again! keep checking back for more updates!
