The other day I was at work and this man came through my checkout. He said “Good morning Tar-lee-arh (not my real name, just a poor attempt at pronouncing it), my name’s Peter. Not Peter who picked a pike of pickled peppers that….” blah, blah, the rest of the verse. He said it in this very proper english accent too. Quite funny really.
I didn’t quite know what to say in response to this, and so I said… nothing.
He went on tell me how ’she sells sea shells by the sea shore’ only a much longer one then the one I know. He told me that this was an alliteration, and did I know what that was. I knew that it was things like tongue twisters, but I couldn’t actually express what it was, so said no. Big mistake.
He went on to explain that an alliteration was when all the words started with the same letter, like… “….insert tongue twister here..” and “… insert another fricken tongue twister…”. “Did you know” he said to me, “that I can say all of these in four different languages, but I wouldn’t show you, because you wouldn’t know if I said it wrong, would you?! *stupid laugh*”
This is all while I am waiting to tell him that his groceries cost $12.45.
I smiled and laughed which I thought was the right thing to do, only that got him started on how he loves to make young ladies smile, and that my smile was particularly beautiful. I smiled again and told him how much his stuff was. He was flustered and said to me, “Oh, dear, I forgot! See what young ladies smiles do to me?! *cheeky laugh*” I laughed politely also and then waited for him to give me his money so that I could move on.
He managed to do the whole money thing (he gave me “the exact change!” as said by him in a very perky, high pitched, posh, english voice), and he had nearly left (I had to call him back because he forgot the one bag of stuff he bought), when he spotted a little girl who was next in line with her mum.
Oh look!! A little lady! I want to make this little lady smile!”
Only she wouldn’t smile at him, so he left.
Cooking dinner is like scrabble.
You are sitting in the kitchen thinking, “Should I use this mince for some easy spaghetti (short word) tonight, or should I wait and use it for that really super cannelloni (really high scoring long word) I was planning for the dinner party?”
Such is the story of mince, hence me buying another 1.2 kilos last night even though we didn’t really NEED it. It leads me to ask an important question, “HOW LONG DOES MINCE LAST IN THE FREEZER?!?!”
Tonight I started cooking dinner practically as soon as I got home from work, which was like 5pm.
I didn’t really make anything flash- just a pumpkin spagehetti salad and a potato bake, but it still took an hour to get everything ready and eating.
I am feeling overwhelmed. Is this just me, or the life of every newly married girl? Here’s some things that are taking their toll on me:
Having to share my car. A small thing, yes, something that can’t be helped, yes, but… it’s still hard to get use to, and slightly annoying.
Working while Luke isn’t. I know it annoys and pains him as much as me, but that still doesn’t take away how jealous I am of him.
Working 4 days a week. And then on my day off having to do things like go to the bank and cook food etc… Bore.
Not having time to do the things I want to do. Just things like squeezing my pimples! haha, or was that a little too personal?
Having to cook and clean etc. Never was much of a clean freak, but now that I’m in my own place I seem to suddenly want everything spotless. It doesn’t help that we have nowhere to put our half dirty clothes so they end up on the floor and hten I get angry at Luke. It’s not his fault, but he seems to have born the grunt of lots of my bad moods lately. ![]()
So it’s been a while since I’ve posted, but that’s because I’ve gotten married and been in Bali on honeymoon!!!
We don’t have the internet at our new place yet, so this is just a quick post to let you all know that I’m still alive and that very soon there will be lots of stories of the exciting, and not so exciting things we did in Bali, as well as many, many wedding pictures!!
