The awesomeness which is Apple…

So the weekend has been pretty chock-a-block, but also pretty awesome. We went down to the Gold Coast on Saturday because I had an appointment booked with an apple genius for 12. The Robina shopping center is freaking huge, so we went shopping for a bit before and each bought new togs etc.

The problem I was having with my iPhone was that it wouldn’t connect to any wifi networks. I’d tried everything I could think of, and also tried all the suggestions from a friend, who is one of the people you might speak to when you call for help on your iPhone! None of his suggestions worked either, but the apple genius was very impressed that I’d tried them all. :-)

Anyway, he said it was a firmware issue, and so I would get a new phone. I knew my phone was out of warranty- but hadn’t mentioned it to the guy, so when he looked up my account he told me I couldn’t actually get it for free ’cause I had no warranty left. I had tried to extend my warranty even though it was over back when the problem first happened, but the lady said it was a no go. This guy, actually being from apple, and not from the helpdesk etc. could work around it and instead of paying $250 for my problem to be fixed, I only paid $99 and now have warranty until the next iPhone comes out (totally can’t wait for this btw!).

So that was a pretty awesome thing to have happen. The staff there were so friendly and helpful. One girl was a little bit bitchy- but she was probably just tired…

The whole store is FULL of people though- everyone just playing on the computers and iPhones and iPods around… while we were in there a guy walked out with his new purchase- a macbook and all the staff stopped what they were doing, looked at him, cheered and clapped! Lots of the customers did too! I was a bit too shocked to clap as well, but it was an awesome thing to see.

So hello new little iPhone- you’re my third one in 13 months, so hopefully you last the distance. I don’t know what it is with my, iPhones and firmware issues, but they seem to go together. :-(

How to make a Felt Phone Cover

The other day I made a few prototype phone covers for my iPhone. I’m also making one for my friend Rachel’s Samsung (I THINK it’s a samsung! All that really matters is that it’s 5 1/2 x 10 1/2 cm…!) soon. It was SO easy to make. It’s excellent for your phone because the felt is beautiful and soft- so it keeps those screens clean, and scratch free, it’s pretty, personalised, and a bit different!

I chose to embroider free-hand. Its easier on felt them trying to draw, and copy.

Choose something meaningful to you. Im Sunshinetalia, so I chose to put the sun on it!

Your phone should fit in snuggly- no looseness, or it might fall out.

I’ve made up a project sheet, which you can download here.

I also have an etsy shop, it’s new (well, I made it a while ago- Dec 06 to be exact, but have only just gotten round to putting things in it!), and the only thing you can buy in it is this! But please specify what patterns you want on the front and back so I can make it how you want!

You could put on a button, or your initials

7 Reasons I love my iPhone

For the last 10 or so days I have been without my iPhone. It was doing this weird thing where people couldn’t hear me unless I had them on loudspeaker, and even then, I was quiet. So I bit the bullet and sent it in for repair. A good friend of mine, Aaron, works at a phone shop, and so he was looking after it all for me, and gave me his old phone to borrow. It’s apparently a really good phone, but for me, just wasn’t my iPhone.

Yesterday I got a BRAND NEW iPhone given to me from Apple to replace my old one. Having it back was just brilliant, and here’s the reasons why:

1. Clarity. Because the iPhone is basically just a screen, the screen is big. Oh how easy it is SEE what I’m doing! The date is easy, the set out of it all is neat, and it’s easy to see missed calls, received calls etc. And things are LABLED, not just little symbols I don’t know about…

2. Backups. When I plugged my new iPhone in, iTunes opened and it said to me something along the lines of ‘this is a brand new iPhone, and you’ve been syncing a different one normally. Did you just want to put everything from TSRC (old phone) onto this one?’
Errr… YES! This is perfect! I didn’t do a backup or anything on that computer before I took it in!
Not only did it remember all my apps and the SETTINGS in my apps, but it returned to me my entire chat and call history!

3. Easy. It’s easy to touch and flick and select and move. The other phone I was using had a touch screen which I had to use a stylus to use, and even then, because the screen was small, and it wasn’t all that sensitive, it was hard and annoying. I love that my iPhone is simple to slide my finger across, and that it is the perfect sensitivity.

4. Typing. I know some people don’t like typing on the iPhone, and I admit, when I first started, I was one of them. BUT, after typing on a tiny little qwerty keyboard on this other phone, I LOVE the iPhone, particularly the self-correct features. It doesn’t matter that your finger touches other letters, because it will work out what you meant to type when you finish the word, and change it.

5. Apps. I was seriously a bad twitterer while I didn’t have my iPhone (I use Tweetie). Not to mention a bad girl at church with no bible (I use the Olive Tree Bible Reader), and forgetful with out my todo list (I use Awesome Note Pro)!

6. Syncing. I mentioned before about the backups, but being able to sync your phone, so that the information in my calenders are the same, address book is the same, and easily adding photos and music is just one of the reason I love this phone.

7. Logical. I find the iPhone logical. It’s logical that you can order your apps the way you want them, that you can call voicemail by pressing a button instead of going into contacts, that you can put it on silent by flicking a switch on the side, and that you can lock it with one click on the top also.
